It is no secret that most of the tallest buildings in Russia are concentrated in Moscow. True, the capital is trying to catch up with St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg, if not by quantity, then by height. The top 10 includes buildings that meet the following criteria: height of the structure with all architectural elements; if one of the towers of the building was already in the ranking, the second, smaller, was not considered.

10. Iset Tower, 212.8 meters high

The only building in the top 10, but not located in Moscow, opens the rating of skyscrapers. This is the Iset tower, built in Yekaterinburg. The original project was curly decorated with balconies, and we can only rejoice that it was subsequently decided to confine ourselves to the most concise decor. The tower looks modern and minimalistic - just what the city center needs. Its peculiarity is the absence of viewing platforms at the top, since the building is intended primarily for residential apartments.

Its height is 212.8 m, floors in the building 52.

Until 2016, the Iset tower was the northernmost skyscraper of the Earth of the already built. However, the St. Petersburg Lakhta Center, upon completion of construction, promises to take this title from Iset, because it will be 3.5 degrees north than the Yekaterinburg skyscraper, and, in addition, 250 meters higher. The project for the construction of the Lakhta Center is due to be completed in 2018.

9. House on Mosfilmovskaya, 213 meters

Unlike most participants in the rating, which are mainly given over to offices, the “House on Mosfilmovskaya” is entirely residential. It consists of two towers of different heights, which are connected by a low longitudinal hull. The tallest building is 52-storey, and the second building is 34-storey, slightly tilted towards the first and decreasing upward. According to the project manager, architect Sergey Skuratov, the house looks like a hyperscale snail.

Depending on the time of year and the number of residents in the house, its temperature regime is regulated.

It is interesting that for the construction of a building of this height due to the proximity to the Novodevichy Convent (they feared that the old monastery would not obscure the new skyscraper), it was decided to send the project to Paris, for approval by UNESCO. Approval was obtained, and in 2012 the building was officially commissioned.

The total height of the house is 213 m.

8. The main building of Moscow State University, 240 meters

In eighth place in the ranking is an ageless veteran, built back in 1953, at the initiative of I.V. Stalin. One of the most beautiful and memorable structures of Soviet architecture is also popular abroad - it was here that a light show of Jean Michel Heat was organized on the occasion of the 850th anniversary of Moscow.

If you look at the building, it seems that its spire and star on the top of the spire and the ears that frame it are made of gold, but this is an illusion. Gilding would have quickly fallen under the influence of rain and wind. Therefore, the creators of the building faced the spire, together with the star and ears, plates of yellow glass, and their inner part is covered with aluminum. But even such a solution did not save the glass parts from destruction, some of them crumbled, this can be seen if you look at the top of the building with binoculars.

The height of the building is 240 m (including the spire), and the floors are only 36.

7. Business complex "Empire" (Imperia Tower), 240.6 meters

The history of the creation of almost all modern Moscow skyscrapers was overshadowed by monetary conflicts and lawsuits. Imperia Tower is no exception - it survived the lawsuit between the two companies, but was successfully completed and put into operation in 2011.

The building is 240.6 m high. It is interesting that with a very minimal difference with the previous place in the ranking in height, the difference in the number of storeys is much more significant - almost double. The length of all the “imperial” pipelines is also surprising; it is 139 kilometers, which is more than the length of the Moscow Ring Road (108.9 kilometers).

To prevent emergencies with equipment for the supply of heat, water and air installed in the "Empire", "understudies" were prepared for it. All this takes 20,000 kilovolt-amperes. Such power is enough to provide electricity to one of the Moscow microdistricts.

6. Triumph Palace, 264.1 meters

Another “residential” high-rise rating. Only the last three rooms of the Triumph Palace are given to the hotel, proudly bearing the name of the highest in Europe. Each number in it copies the style of one of the cities of the world.

The building of the skyscraper is classical, designed in the style of Moscow architecture of the middle of the last century (the so-called "Stalin's skyscrapers"), including such a recognizable element as a spire. All sections of the house are united by a 5-story stylobate. French windows, bay windows and triumph-corner corner glazed windows look very beautiful and unusual.

The height of the building with a spire is 264.1 m, and the floors in it are 57.

5. Tower on the Embankment, 268.4 meters

Strictly speaking, the Tower on the Embankment is three different buildings united by a common base.

  1. The first, the smallest, only 17 floors high;
  2. the second is already higher - 27 floors;
  3. but the third one is 268.4 m high and has 61 floors.

The construction of the complex was completed in 2007, and for two years the Tower was considered the tallest building in Moscow - until it was overtaken by fourth place in the rating. By the way, unlike the giants of Moscow City, Enka built a skyscraper exclusively at its own expense and did not apply for a loan to Sberbank.

4. City of Capitals, 301.8 meters

The skyscraper located in Moscow City consists of two high-rise buildings that look like a child’s attempt to assemble a tower of cubes. The names of the skyscraper were given in honor of two capitals - the state capital and the cultural capital.

Of course (the Muscovites built it) “Moscow” came out higher (301.8 m), and “St. Petersburg” - lower (256.9 m). And their building connects only 18 floors.

In 2010, the City of Capitals entered the top 10 best skyscrapers on Earth according to Emporis Standards. And until 2011, the Moscow tower bore the title of the tallest building in the CIS, but after the completion of monolithic work at the Moscow skyscraper Mercury City Tower, this title passed to him.

3. Skyscraper "Eurasia", 308.9 meters

The project of the next skyscraper from Moscow City, it was decided to make a classic look with a slight hint of modernity. From Art Nouveau there was only a sharp transition from a wider to a narrower part of the building, vaguely reminiscent of the architecture of the Stalinist skyscrapers of Moscow.

This turquoise, titanic-looking building has been haunted by scandals since its birth - starting from the suspension of financing by Sberbank due to criminal cases against the top management of the Eurasia project, up to claims for overdue loans. Whatever it was, in 2013 the project was finally completed.

The building has a height of 308.9 m and has 71 floors.

2. Mercury City Tower, 339 meters

If almost all the skyscrapers in Moscow City are solved in the metallic blue scheme that is traditional for the city’s skyscrapers, then the Mercury tower stands out from the general row - it is golden yellow.

It was originally planned to make it “only” 322 m high, but four years after the start of the project, it was decided to add another 17 meters to the building. Thus, the height of the building increased to 339 m, and the number of storeys - up to 75.

The exterior and structural features of the building were so good that they were honored to enter the top 10 best skyscrapers in the world according to the Emporis Skyscraper Award.

1. Federation Tower, 373.7 meters

The “tower” consists of two buildings, two compositionally and stylistically unified skyscrapers, standing on one base. The one that is lower (242.4 m) is the “West”. And Vostok dominates it, a gigantic 97-story building with a height of 373.7 m.

During the construction of a building of such magnitude, architects and builders had to face difficulties - at first the size of the foundation was incorrectly calculated, which led to the need for its “superstructure”. As a result, the building lost one underground floor. And in 2012, the still unfinished Vostok caught fire and for quite some time played the role of a giant torch over Moscow - the sight was clearly visible for many kilometers from the fire. But, despite all the difficulties, in mid-November 2017 the project was finally completed.

Lakhta Center, 462 meters (under construction)

True, the laurels of the Federation Tower as the tallest building in Russia will soon be in jeopardy. The northern capital joined the competition - its Lakhta Center promises to become the second tallest building in Europe, second only to the Ostankino television tower. The view from the upper floors must be just amazing.
