The worst cities in Russia in terms of living, the poorest cities in the Russian Federation

Many Russians complain about the unresolved problems of their city. The Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, after conducting sociological polls in 2017, found out which Russian megacities can be called the most disadvantaged in terms of quality of life. Poverty in these cities of Russia borders on the desire to move to another region.

To objectively assess the quality of life in a particular Russian city, its residents were questioned about such important areas as:

  • the level of medicine and the availability of medical facilities, etc .;
  • satisfaction with the condition of roads with the work of public transport and traffic police;
  • willingness to move from your hometown in search of a better life;
  • the state of the housing stock, the quality of housing and communal services, the level of improvement of the city, etc.
  • the opportunity to get a good education and the number of cultural institutions in the city;
  • assessment of the work of the city authorities, including the perception of their level of corruption.

According to the results of the study, the most prosperous cities in Russia in terms of living standards were Tyumen, Grozny, Kazan, the Northern capital and Krasnodar.

And here is a dozen outsiders.

The worst cities in Russia in terms of living for 2018

10. Rostov-on-Don

Opens the rating of cities with the lowest standard of living, the largest southern city of Russia. Although he is rapidly preparing for the World Cup, the townspeople are negative about the work of the city authorities and the condition of the roads, coupled with the work of the traffic police. But the level of culture and education is high, and the majority of Rostovites do not aspire to move from their hometown.

9. Izhevsk

The townspeople highly value the condition of roads and road facilities, as well as the work of the traffic police. And very low - the level of education and culture. The work of the city authorities was also awarded low marks, and together with them the townspeople spoke unflatteringly about the work of the housing and communal services and the condition of the housing stock.

8. Ulyanovsk

A beautiful city with a good climate has several "sore spots". One of the troubles is the most common in Russia. You probably already guessed that it’s expensive. There are problems with public transport, as well as with cultural leisure and poor quality education. Also in Ulyanovsk garbage is very poorly cleaned.

7. Lipetsk

Very low residents of Lipetsk rate the activities of the city authorities. The level of education and very few attractions are also low. But the high quality of medical care and the road surface does not suggest the recent bombing.

6. Chelyabinsk

The city of harsh people and the developed metallurgical industry is “rolled” into the asphalt, but the quality of the roads leaves much to be desired. And some minibuses "survived" from public transport. Without your own car, it’s very difficult to get to the right place in the city if it is not within walking distance.

Education related to technical specialties is at a high level. The level of medicine is average.

Both locals and visitors note a small number of high-quality educational and cultural places.

5. Omsk

Least of all Omsk residents are satisfied with the condition of the housing stock and the work of the public utilities of their native city. The poor condition of roads, confusion with signposts, many of which lead to the wrong destination, both Omsk residents and city guests note.

But, according to the results of the survey, things are very good both with the culture and the level of education.

4. Astrakhan

The main transport hub of the Lower Volga region is rich in architectural monuments, but there are not enough new buildings in it. On average, there are 18 squares per person, while the norm is 20 squares. The housing stock is dominated by private and low-rise buildings.

The townspeople rated the work of housing and communal services and the quality of medical services the lowest. And the highest - the state of the roads, the level of culture and education.

3. Tolyatti

A beautiful green city with wide streets is depressed compared to many other cities of the Volga region; it is also considered one of the poorest cities in Russia in terms of budget expenditures per inhabitant. Migration sentiment is widespread, especially among young people. As in many other cities from the "black list" on the quality of life, in Togliatti hospitals there is a lack of qualified medical staff.

Respondents from Togliatti rated the quality of education and the possibility of cultural rest very low. However, six local schools entered the top 500 best educational institutions in Russia.

City roads are being actively repaired ahead of the FIFA World Cup. So there is hope that in the next rating Togliatti will no longer be in the top three worst cities.

2. Volgograd

In 2017, this city was recognized as the poorest among 13 million-plus cities. The average level of salaries in large and medium-sized institutions of Volgograd is slightly above 32 thousand rubles. In Rostov-on-Don, neighboring Volgograd, which is ranked 10th in the ranking of the most disadvantaged cities in Russia in 2018, the average salary reaches 38 thousand rubles.

“Killed” roads, high prices for public transport, poor housing conditions, inactivity of housing and communal services, difficulties with making an appointment with the right doctor only aggravate the generally negative picture of life in Volgograd.

1. Makhachkala

This city is called an urban apocalypse. Many houses in it are being built without an expert opinion and without design and estimate documentation. Many territories belonging to parks, schools and hospitals have been sold out, and even, according to public figure Suleiman Uladiyev, even some sidewalks. The high level of corruption of the authorities, poor work of housing and communal services, unclear prospects for the future in their hometown and other problems related to the quality of life make many citizens look for happiness in more prosperous cities of the Russian Federation.
