For years, football fans have been arguing violently with each other, defending the honor of their beloved team. To the question: "Who is better?" Clubelo website was innovative: to calculate sportsmanship, the creators began to use the Elo system.
Moreover, in the ranking of the best, clubs are not placed as such, but clubs in a certain time period. The fact is that in different years the composition and level of the game of the same team can be very different. And we will tell you about ten statistically best football teams in the history of football.
10. Manchester United (2008)
Rating: 2026
The 2008 season turned out to be successful for the Reds: not only the Premier League crown (by the way, it was already tenth at that time), but also the European Cup. The players were not successful with recognition, three of them were awarded the inclusion in the “team of the year”, and Cristiano Ronaldo received six prizes at once. Well, it would be a sin not to reward a person who scored 31 goals in a season.
More than nine years have passed since then, but football fans still compare other football teams with the 2008 Manchester United. And most often this parallel is flattering for the latter.
9. Chelsea (2008)
Rating: 2026
After the Chelsea club once again finished second after Manchester United, management decided to part with coach Avram Grant and replace him with Brazilian Luis Felipe Scolari.
He put Ash Basingwa, who recently arrived on the team, as defenders, and the tactics paid off: Chelsea literally stormed the league, leaving Liverpool far behind. True, by the middle of the season the team ran out of steam, and Scolari had to be replaced by Guus Hiddink, who brought Chelsea to the top three of the Champions League.
8. MTK (1955)
Rating: 2037
It would seem that ancient history - more than sixty years have passed since the victories of the Hungarian football club. More recently, World War II died out, during which the president of the club was killed by the Nazis, and the club itself was persecuted due to the presence of Jewish players in the squad.
However, after the war, the MTK, like a phoenix, rose from the ashes. At the finest hour, many strong players played in it, including the great Ferenc Puskas; it was in his honor that the prize for the most beautiful goal according to FIFA was named.
7. Manchester City (2019)
Rating: 2047
Last year brought “sky blue” four trophies: they actually single-handedly won prizes from all football competitions in England and became the first team to receive a triple title.
It is worth adding (especially in our time, when the profitability of football teams is just as, if not more important, than their sports successes), that the income of Manchester City became the fifth largest among all football clubs in the world and amounted to 527.7 million euros.
6. Milan (1993)
Rating: 2052
The Italian club in 1993 won three trophies, having won one of them in a tense victory over Barcelona with a crushing score of 4: 0 in the Champions League final.
The team, playing the whole season on the defensive, suddenly and quickly exploded in a string of goals. Then “Milan” won Serie A with just 36 goals, which he scored in 34 games. And I missed only 15.
On the defensive were such strong players as Franco Barezi and Paolo Maldini, in the center of the field - Frank Rajkaard and Ruud Gullit, and ahead were the winners of the Golden Ball Marco van Bastin and Jean-Pierre Papin.
5. Real Madrid (1961)
Rating: 2069
The Fifties was a stellar time for Real Madrid, while the club won the European Cup five times in a row, including a brilliant fight against Eintracht Frankfurt in 1960.
After five consecutive wins, Real Madrid received an honorary prize - the cup itself on an ongoing basis and the right to wear the UEFA badge of honor. And in 1961, Real Madrid took the cup for the sixth time!
4. Liverpool (2020)
Rating: 2074
Surely Liverpool fans will be ecstatic when they learn that their favorite team has entered the top 10 best football teams of all time according to Clubelo! And no wonder - out of 21 league matches they won 20, which had never happened before.
And if we add here the title of the Champions League, the club World Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, it will become clear why the face of Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp does not leave a wide smile.
3. Real Madrid (2014)
Rating: 2096
The season of 2013-2014 turned out to be anniversary for Real - 110th in the history of the club (or 83 in the Spanish League, but this figure is not so beautiful). Then the team fought for the record 33rd title of La Liga and entered the UEFA Champions League, hoping to get a significant tenth title.
And the “Madrid” succeeded, they managed to defeat “Atletico Madrid” with a score of 4: 1. And, add, Real Madrid is the only team that has won the double appearance in the ranking of the best football teams from Clubelo - albeit with a gap of more than half a century.
2. Bayern Munich (2014)
Rating: 2104
Bayern Munich triumphantly passed the Bundesliga in the 2013-2014 season, and in February 2014 went to the club world championships, winning the world title. The club also participated in the DFL Super Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.
And although the “Bavarians” lost the DFL “Borussia Dortmund”, but recouped at the “Chelsea” in UEFA. In general, that year for the team is considered the most successful in its history, which is confirmed by five prizes.
1. Barcelona (2012)
Rating: 2107
According to the Clubelo website, the best statistically best football team in the world was Barcelona in 2012. Then she scored a stunning number of goals - 175, that is, about 3 for each game.
Both the number of victories and the number of goals scored is the best result in the Spanish League for the year. The top scorer then became (of course) Lionel Messi, who set a new world record - 91 goals per season. 79 of them he scored for Barcelona, and 12 for his Argentine national team. However, he scored one of the best goals in the history of football even earlier - in 2007, in the home match Barcelona - Getafe.
What is ELO?
The system for evaluating the conditional “strength” of the participants in the competition (both individually and as a team) was invented by the Hungarian chess player and part-time scientist Arpad Elo.
- If you greatly simplify, then when you win, the player adds points, and when you lose, they are taken away. And if there is a tie, they are deducted from both opponents.
- The number of points added / taken away depends on the rating of the opponent and on the probable outcome of the competition.
- For example, if an adversary belongs to the highest league and a newcomer to the lower league, then the system assumes the victory of the former with a probability of 99%. And if a rookie suddenly wins, then he will get a lot of points. And if enough points accumulate, then the player moves to the next rank, where other factors are already used when calculating points.
For football, a special Elo system modified for the football specifics is used. It takes into account all matches of class “A”, the results of which are available to everyone, and the final verdict is issued after wagering 30 matches.
The system also takes into account many nuances, for example, the previous team rating, the importance of the competition, the number of goals and, of course, the result.
